Melbourne's ABODE 318 skyscraper was considered the fifth best in the world, but China is home to the world's finest skyscraper for the second year.
Melbourne skyscraper Abode 318 designed by Elenberg Fraser and Disegno architects has gained fifth place at the 2015 Emporis Skyscraper Awards.
The 2015 winner was Shanghai Tower, designed by Gensler Architects and 2Define Architecture. It was the second time a Chinese project has won the award in the 16-year history of the competition.
Shanghai Tower is the second tallest building in the world and the tallest skyscraper in Asia. Its elegant spiralling form, thermos-inspired energy efficiency, and claim to the world’s fastest elevator were the reasons given for the tower being awarded top place.
Adobe 318 was built 2015 and was the eleventh tallest building in Melbourne. The tower is most dentifiable for its rose-coloured rippling facade.
The Emporis Skyscraper Award was established in 2000. Previous winners include Wangjing SOHO, Beijing (2014), The Shard, London (2013) and Absolute World Towers, Mississauga (2012).
