Architects Panovscott have built a garden studio in Marrickville for two artists.
Anita Panov and Andrew Scott of Panovscott were briefed by clients Todd and Cherine to design a gallery-like space, where art could be both made and shown.
The 'Garden Gallery' sits at the end of the clients' garden, and is clad in vertical planks of wood cut from recycled telegraph poles.
The building is surrounded by established trees, and backs onto a railway line.
"The building allows the clients to engage in the making and consideration of art apart from, but in close proximity to, the domestic environment," said Panov and Scott.
The owners wanted "to meld their work and family lives, to limit wasted time and energy in travelling, and to bring their environmental footprint inward."
The structure is divided into three spaces: a photography and sculpture studio for Cherine, and a larger production and display area for Tod, and a bathroom. The creative couple say living close to their work, and being able to see it from their home, means they feel less anxiety about getting back to their art. It's always close to them.
