Jane Schumann is a sales agent with the Schumann Sands Team at Di Jones Real Estate.
How did you start in the real estate business? Have you always worked in this industry or did you do something else previously?
I have worked in real estate since 1990, prior to that I was National Publicity Manager at Polygram Records.
What do you love about your job?
I love the constant challenge and change. No two days are the same. I’ve met many interesting people, some of whom have become friends. I love the business of negotiation and a win win for all.
Is real estate a good profession for women?
Absolutely. My boys were very small when I began in the industry, and I learnt very early on that brokering deals can be done anywhere.
Real Estate gives you the flexibility and best of both worlds between home life and work life. Women are often more nurturing by nature, and they can transfer this easily to real estate negotiations. Everyone should feel good, and women can empathise. It’s a great profession for women, there definitely isn’t a glass ceiling!!
What would you like to see done differently in the real estate industry?
I feel the industry has progressed enormously over the years, however if I had to pick something I would say greater transparency of information between buyers and agents.
What’s your advice to a young person thinking of entering the real estate profession?
Have the right intent. It’s not all about money, it’s about relationships and professional dealings.
Where do you live now?
I live in Rushcutters Bay – I love watching the area grow and become more cosmopolitan. It’s close to everything. It’s all about the lifestyle.
What’s your dream home, anywhere in the world?
Probably a small villa in Positano for the summer and an apartment in New York for the rest of the year.
