The Planning Institute Australia has announced the winners of its 2015 Australia Award for Urban Design. Western Australian projects and programs took out two of five main awards.
The main prize went to Brookfield Place, an inner-Perth apartment block which transformed a site left vacant for 30 years into an inviting and engaging public space.
The Hart’s Mill area in Port Adelaide South Australia took out the award for small-scale projects. This project revitalised the wharf area of former milling buildings.

A potential smartphone app Home:LIFE took out the award for large-scale concept. Sunshine Coast Light Rail plan won the award for large-scale policy, with a plan aimed at integrating public transport into linear coastal urban development.
Fremantle’s Victoria Quay Enabling Precinct Plan took the award for small-scale policies, programs and concepts. This project aimed to reinvigorate the quay, station and park areas of Fremantle Port.
