The site of one of Australia's oldest vineyards in Pokolbin, New South Wales is on the market.
Sweetwater, a property billed as “the most significant country estate in Australia” and with one of the country’s oldest vineyards, is currently for sale and looking for interest above $30 million.
It was established in 1829 after merchant and pastoralist Richard Jones received 10,000 acres in the Belford area of the Hunter Valley, and set up one of his finest vineyards.
It’s thought to have produced 2,000 gallons of wine from his first plantings in 1844. It was bought by the Sweetwater Wines company in 1997, and developed into Sweetwater Ridge, an estate of twelve vineyard acreage lots.
The country residence – which comes with private guest wings, four Juliet balconies, loggia, plunge pool, day spa and formal entry courtyard - also overlooks the Sweetwater Valley.
The property has ten bedrooms and three bathrooms. The owners are seeking interest over $30 million.
