Villa D'Este is an inspired example of 1970s architecture.
This elegant home has grand proportions and cleverly designed living spaces. The impressive entrance opens to a large open-plan living area with white marble terrazzo flooring. To one side is a sunken 'conversation pit', with floor-to-ceiling windows, views of the beautifully landscaped gardens, and Italian granite finishes.
A lavish formal dining area overlooks a courtyard, and leads onto the kitchen, which contains a casual dining space. The kitchen features black marble benchtops, a cedar ceiling, ample storage, and quality appliances.
A sitting room lies at the back of the house, and a downstairs study has marble floors, built-in cupboards, and wonderful views of the garden.
The bespoke finishes of the house are exemplary. The entrance-hall door handles were made specially by Sydney artist Lucy Boyd. Curtains were hand woven in India specifically for the house. The main staircase is made from marble terrazzo, curved perspex, and chrome balustrades.
Upstairs, the four bedrooms overlook the garden, and a sitting room opens onto a balcony. The master suite has a walk-through robe, a designer ensuite with a Bonsack of London bath, and tapware from Crystal et Bronze in Paris.
The gardens were first planted in 1890, and contain wonderful examples of well-established trees. The block is 5,745sqm, and contains a tennis court. The two-car garage includes a workshop.
