This timeless Brighton home delivers stunning European style metres from Church Street and its high-end retail, restaurants and cafes.

The two-level home was designed by architect Enzo Campus, who wanted to create a very solid, private Oasis in the heart of Brighton that would ‘block out the white noise of the world’.

Speaking to LUXURY LIST, Kay & Burton’s Tommy McIntosh likened the home to an Italian cocktail.

“I like to think of this house as an entertaining oasis,” Tommy told LUXURY LIST. “If this house was a cocktail, I would make it a negroni.”

“I instantly fell in love with 39 Black Street as soon as I walked through the wooden gates. The detail that went into the build is stunning - arch doors, German locks, wooden eaves and copper downpipes.”

Kay & Burton extended the metaphor during the off-market campaign, gifting all attendees a cocktail and a cupcake to enjoy in the afternoon while reflecting on the property.

The front of the cocktail has an illustration of the house, the address, and Kay and Burton monogram, while the back has all the details and size of the block with a note saying, ‘You have enjoyed the home, now enjoy a drink while picturing yourself in it.’

“I could really see myself in this house, rolling pasta on the marble bench tops with my kids and then eating outside on top of the rocks with the sun streaming through the trees,” Tommy explained to LUXURY LIST.

“I created the negroni as I felt it best represented the personality of the house. The details of the property were on the back, so the buyer could enjoy a Miss Lady Bird Cup Cake while responsibly drinking over ice with a slice of orange.”

In addition, coffees are provided for all who register at a viewing.

“I receive their coffee orders in the morning via text and arrange for collection before opening. I love to create experiences. Sensory experiences, with candles, music, freshly baked pastries out on the benchtop and coffees waiting for potential buyers as they arrive,” Tommy told LUXURY LIST.

Inside, Stonnington Residential has created a four-bedroom home plus office, full of light and luxurious finishes, with outdoor spaces created by Eugene Gilligan Garden Design. 

The timeless is hidden behind a high front fence and remote-control gates leading to a four-car garage. Two spacious living zones deliver wide-board oak floors, floor to ceiling windows, bespoke cabinetry, and calming views of a large courtyard garden. 

Eugene Gilligan told LUXURY LIST protecting the beautiful oak in the front garden was a priority of his design. "The primary focus of the design was to accentuate and protect the advanced oak tree and to ensure its ongoing health. The front garden has formal planting with areas of gravel rather than solid paving. We were very concious that the new building and landscaping would not impact the oak."

"Not only does this look good, as it accentuates the columns and doors and enhances the classic European feel of the home, but more importantly the gravel allows rainwater to drain into the roots of the tree, making it green and lush and ensuring its health and longevity. Under the tree would be a perfect place to sit and relax."

Home entertaining was at the forefront of the minds of the designers, with a double-sided open plan kitchen, including marble benches, heated travertine floors in wet areas and hallways, ducted air conditioning, and a 20-metre terrace awning. The craftsman-built timber doors and feature arch windows add to the Tuscan detail. 

The front room home office is perfect for today's current working climate, with separate access and botanical views that are ideal for working from home, while the main bedroom includes a spacious main retreat featuring a generous walk-in wardrobe and hotel-quality ensuite, complete with a bath and views.

Other features include up-to-date technology and security systems, floor heating, fireplace, blinds, air conditioning, multi-colored LED lighting system, 18 speakers Sonos system, alarm, and security cameras. All can be operated by phone or voice activated.
