** 1937 Airlines of Australia Model A Stinson en route to Sydney, carrying 2 pilots and 5 passengers disappeared in rough weather. It was thought to have crashed at sea but then owner, Bernard O'Rielly believed the wreck was somewhere in the steep mountainous terrian of the Macpherson Ranges, with its dense untracked jungle and set off by himself to find survivors. He became a national hero.
