The luxury Sydney waterfront residence with Harbour Bridge and city views sold under the hammer on Saturday morning for more than $20 million.

The price easily eclipsed the peninsula’s previous top waterfront auction sale of 9 Viret Street which reached $16.4 million last December, also sold through McGrath Hunters Hill’s Tracey Dixon.

Closer to Saturday’s price was Ms Dixon’s $19 million private treaty sale last year of Windermere, a waterfront property at 25 Ernest Street, Hunters Hill.

John McGrath called the auction of the tri-level home at 3 Mayfield Avenue, Woolwich in front of a closed auction gathering of three registered bidders.

All three bidders participated in the auction which ran for 45 minutes before the hammer fell.

The buyers, a family from the inner city harbourfront, had been searching for their dream home for 12 months. They are delighted with their new home and the waterfront lifestyle that awaits them.

Located in one of Hunters Hill's premier streets, the 5 bedroom 5 bathroom east-facing property covers 778 square metres leading down to a boat shed with slipway, private jetty, pontoon and mooring for a 17.4-metre vessel.
