Set on an estate of approx. 40 hectares, 'Vineyard House' estate boasts the award-winning Robinson Vineyard, on approx. 23 hectares. For sale by Gowan Stubbings and Tom Barr Smith of Kay & Burton.
'Vineyard House' is an award-winning residence set across a remarkable 39.92 hectares (approx.) positioned at the foothills of the Mornington Peninsula hinterland.
The property includes a significant, mature and award-winning commercial vineyard on approx. 23 hectare.
Designed by John Wardle Architects, in 2004 The Vineyard House was the recipient of the prestigious Australian Institute of Architects, Harold Desbrowe-Annear Award for the “Best New Residential House” and was awarded the “Best Residential Building” at the 2005 Architectural Excellence in the South East Awards.
John Wardle told WILLIAMS MEDIA that after many years Vineyard House remains one of his favourite houses.
“The Vineyard House is, as the name suggests very much about its place in this very special setting. It is sited to align with the rows of vines and its pronounced structures match the space of their rows. Like the viticultural principals of grafting the beautiful bud stock to the vigorous root stock, the house is arranged into two parts. One, firmly places the sociability of the house with the plan of the vineyard and the other more intimate spaces twist to focus on the indigenous bushland that surrounds this setting,” Wardle told WILLIAMS MEDIA.
Textured and tactile natural materials keep the residence connected to its environs, including features such as curvaceous rammed earth walls, rolling timber ceilings and joinery and Indian slate flooring.
Wings lead off the core of the home like branches on a vine, providing private accommodation with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a study, while the north-facing family and entertaining areas take in views across the vineyard to the hills of Mount Eliza through walls of windows.
The open-plan living and dining zone unfolds to a dramatic colonnade reminiscent of vineyard rows. The bespoke granite and timber kitchen is the home’s heart, while a traditional cool room/butler’s pantry is designed to be stocked with preserves and produce from the prolific kitchen garden and orchard. Additional features include a clever “bus stop” inspired mud room, and climate controlled 1,200 plus bottle cellar.
