This landmark Bowen Hills home, positioned on a north-facing 1,265sqm allotment (approx.) with views of Breakfast Creek and the Brisbane River, has been sold by Sarah Hackett of Place New Farm for $3,001,000 under the hammer.

Known as ‘Manola’, the historic property was designed and constructed circa 1916 by Brisbane architect Leslie Gordon Corrie for his brother Alexander Corrie, a stockbroker, and his wife, Lilian.

Manola remained in the Corrie family until 1941, after which it was purchased by Maud ‘Lores’ Bonney, the well-known Brisbane aviatrix. Lores sold Manola in 1963 and the property has changed hands several times since.

In the 1980s, the historic property was renovated under the supervision of Brisbane heritage architect Robert Riddell, retaining timeless details such as 3.6-metre-high ceilings, timber floors, VJ walls, Thurlow wooden blinds, French doors and charming bay windows as well as a beautiful character façade with wide wrap-around verandahs.

Manola has been a Local Heritage Place since 1 July 2002.

Sarah Hackett told LUXURY LIST WEEKEND there were multiple second inspections of the property during the 22-day campaign.

“This is an extremely loved home, with the sellers enjoying it for 33 years,” Sarah explained.

“The interest in this property was due to the huge land size, only 1 km from the city. The position is magnificent, north facing, and with 2 street frontages.”
