A precious and beautiful New Zealand farm is on the market.
Nature's Wonders is a 172-hectare, working sheep and cattle farm, and eco-tourism property. It is home to some of New Zealand's most endangered species, including yellow-eyed penguins, blue penguins, fur seals, albatross, black-backed gulls, cormorants, red-billed gulls, red heron, white-faced heron, and pukeko.
The eco-tourism resort, Nature's Wonders, is known around the world. It features historic gun placements, and native New Zealand birds and animals.
The property is situated at the entrance to the Otago Harbour, and occupies a significant portion of Taiaroa Head. The elimination of predators on the farm, the construction of predator-proof fencing, trapping, and native tree planting, means that native species have been able to flourish at Nature's Wonders.
The land has been owned by Perry Reid and his family for generations. Reid says the decision to sell hasn't come lightly. "We have taken Nature's Wonders as far as we can. What it needs now is an injection of money for it stay the way it is, or to be taken to the next level," he said. "It will be heartbreaking to leave, trust me."
The property is listed for tender with Matt Finnigan, of New Zealand Sotheby's International Realty. "Nature's Wonders is a very special piece of real estate," said Finnigan.
"Because of the absence of any imposing conservation covenants, we expect a good level of interest from a broad section of the market, including from offshore, and particularly expats looking for a long-term family purchase. It may be that it ends up as a private estate or alternatively a larger-scale business."
