The Australasian Auctioneering Championships (AUSTROS) are marking their 21st competition cycle with a significant new initiative.
REIA President, Leanne Pilkington said that a comprehensive review of the AUSTROS event has been launched, signalling a major step towards enhancing the competition’s role and effectiveness in the real estate markets of Australia and New Zealand.
“The primary aim of this review is to ensure that AUSTROS continues to support the development of auctioneering as a transparent and effective sales method.
“The competition is renowned for showcasing top talent from across both nations, and the review seeks to uphold this standard while exploring ways to enhance its appeal and impact. The goal is to maintain AUSTROS as a distinguished competition for members of the national bodies, appealing to both seasoned and emerging auctioneers.”
Ms Pilkington said key aspects of the review will include unifying the format and structure of AUSTROS and its feeder events, ensuring consistency across all stages of competition.
The taskforce will evaluate the qualification process, including whether the allocation of spots for each state and New Zealand remains effective in meeting the competition’s objectives.
“The review will address the event’s delivery and logistics to ensure its financial viability and explore opportunities for broader scope and increased promotion. These findings will form the basis for the 2025 AUSTROS Guidelines, guiding future iterations of the competition.
“As the taskforce begins its work, this review represents a crucial step in reinforcing AUSTROS’s role in promoting excellence and innovation within the auctioneering profession,” Ms Pilkington concluded.
The Taskforce will meet Monday 26 August 2024.
