Archer Design founder Richard Archer has built his career on improving the lifestyles of his clients.
When architect Richard Archer takes on a project, his focus is not the building so much as its inhabitants.
The founder of Archer Design said the opportunity to improve the lives of his clients would always be a source of inspiration.
“I’m fascinated with the way people live and how their environments can be made better so they are happier,” he said.
“Everyone lives differently, but people want to come into their homes and have a sense of harmony and balance.
“If it flows and everything is highly functional, they will live in a more seamless and comfortable manner, which gives them time to enjoy their lives more.”
It’s a formula that has served Mr Archer well throughout his 21 years at the helm of Archer Design.
The award-winning Sydney-based firm has built up a reputation during that time for producing outstanding architectural and interior design solutions for numerous multi-unit residential developments, corporate projects and an exclusive list of high-end private residential commissions.
Successful projects include the design of a waterfront apartment at Elizabeth Bay, which was awarded the 2019 Creston Home Technology Award for Most Unique Application.

The same apartment also took out the 2018 Trends International Design Award for Best Apartment in Australia and was shortlisted for the 2018 International Design & Architecture Awards for Best Interior Design in the Asia Pacific.
While Mr Archer welcomed the recognition, he said nothing was as effective as the approval of a client when it came to building the Archer Design brand.
“Almost all of our work comes through word of mouth,” he said.
“If a client has had a good relationship with their architect and is very happy in their home, they are generally more than happy to tell other people.
“It does a lot of the work for you because these people have been to homes you have designed and know the people you have designed them for.”
Mr Archer added that trust was at the centre of any client-architect relationship.
“People are essentially spending large amounts of money on something they can only see on paper or through renderings,” he said.
“That’s why it is important to get that sense of trust early on, so they understand we understand them.
“It’s not as if I’m imposing my personal taste on them - it’s how to help them live the best way they can.”

Archer Design’s interior expertise will be featured in more than one element of a multi-story apartment building in Darling Point, which they have been enlisted to complete a 10-year master plan for.
Having already worked on apartments within the building, the firm has been tasked with re-designing the common areas and the main building foyer.
Mr Archer said his team would draw on its experience with commercial spaces for the project.
“It’s a magnificently located building, but the interiors of the lobbies and common areas have let it down, which is impacting on our client’s assets,” he said.
“Our experience in designing many lobbies for commercial and residential buildings has made this an exciting process.”
