Emma is Senior Portfolio Manager at Di Jones Real Estate in Sydney.
How did you start in the real estate business? Have you always worked in this industry or did you do something else previously?
I started straight out of school in a small boutique agency which is close to where I grew up near the Blue Mountains. The market is quite different out there as I would be dealing with envirocycles, water access lines, paddocks and fences day to day as opposed to lifts, DA applications and strata agents.
What do you love about your job?
Seeing the different ways people live. Dealing with clients from all walks of life.
Is real estate a good profession for women?
Real Estate is absolutely a good profession for women! Up until recently it had been a male dominated industry but we are seeing top female agents exceeding beyond expectations year after year and its amazing to see new talent coming up through the ranks with great attitude and drive.
What would you like to see done differently in the real estate industry?
A major overhaul in the education process in order to be come an agent to eliminate the cowboys and bring back a good healthy name to the industry.
What’s your advice to a young person thinking of entering the real estate profession?
Stay focused. Put in the hours and maintain a good reputation through honesty and transparency.
What do you think of talk that Sydney is headed for an inevitable property “bubble”? What’s your outlook for your area?
Sydney will always have strong property markets. The critics have been wrong many times before!

What’s your dream home, anywhere in the world?
A sandstone and timber cottage in a forest near a lake where it snows in winter and is really warm in summer….. Banf, Canada perhaps?!
