Renovated with a New York feel and a flexible layout, the single level home was sold by Andrew Smith of Kay & Burton.
Offering secure inner city living in a desirable pocket of Prahran, this reimagined Victorian home has been sold by Andrew Smith of Kay & Burton following a three-week campaign.
The property is walking distance to High Street and East Prahran Village, trams, Lumley Park, and close to Chapel Street.

“Fully renovated Victorian homes in Prahran are very popular, particularly when they have a third bedroom/study (most only have 2) as well as 2 car parks.”
“The campaign was brought to a head by the impending lockdown,” Andrew explained to WILLIAMS MEDIA, “The property was sold at 7pm on the eve of the lockdown coming in to effect at midnight!”
Source: Kay & BurtonWith four offers, the home was purchased by a young couple for $1.57m. Interest was mostly from dual income young professional couples in their 20’s and 30’s, with some older people either downsizing or with a permanent home in the Mornington Peninsula that are looking for a Pied de Terre close in Melbourne but did not want an apartment.
“There is a large pent-up amount of demand by buyers as stocks remain very low and banks are taking longer to approve finance. This lockdown has given buyers a chance to get finance in order so we expect September to December is going to be very busy.”
Source: Kay & BurtonBrilliantly renovated throughout to take advantage of its northerly orientation, the home’s light-filled contemporary interiors feature sparkling white interiors, engineered oak floorboards, and flexible living spaces. The renovation was organised by the owner’s mother, Susie Hamson, a New York designer, imparting a very New York loft feel to the home.
Susie told WILLIAMS MEDIA, "The Contemporary interiors of a Victorian cottage explode around a totally private internal courtyard giving wonderful natural light. The warm mellow pink living room provides a super background for interesting art work. The painted mint-lined bookshelves connect to the stylish kitchen with its mirror splash-back reflecting the garden. It’s been a very happy home to raise a toddler."
There are two bedrooms, with built-in robes and a master ensuite fully-tiled with subway tiles. The flexible floorplan includes a third bedroom/study and a sun-drenched open plan kitchen with stone island bench, stainless steel gas appliances, concealed pantry and a wall of storage. Steel-framed glass doors open the kitchen to a north-facing central courtyard garden for indoor -outdoor living, something never associated with a traditional Victorian home. An overhead awning offers protection from the sun, while adding to the courtyard’s practical uses, including being an ideal children’s play area.
