This weekend marks the final auction weekend of the year, and Melbourne is set to have a bumper weekend with 798 auctions scheduled, 270 more than this weekend last year and a record pre-Xmas weekend, according to the Real Estate Institute of Victoria.

The previous pre-Christmas Saturday record was set in 2009 with a high of 590 auctions.

The most popular suburb for auctions at the weekend is Reservoir with 16 followed by Craigieburn 14, St Albans, Essendon and Mill Park each with 13, Mount Waverley and Lalor each with 11 and Northcote and Preston each with 10 auctions listed.

Last weekend, there were 1394 properties listed for auction. This year, solid market activity has seen a record 44,000 auctions held in Victoria.

The next big auction weekend will be held on January 30, 2016.
