How did you start in the real estate business? Have you always worked in this industry or did you do something else previously?
My first experience in Real Estate was when I was 17, my friends mother owned an agency. She needed someone as her assistant was off sick, so I helped out and was offered a permanent position in the company. Unfortunately due to family illness my time there was cut short and I proceeded to completed my certificate 3 in commercial cookery. I was a chef for many years, but always loved property and was fascinated by the Real Estate industry. I finally decided to make a big (and very scary) career change, and I must say every day I’m glad I did.
What do you love about your job?
I love the challenge. I feel every day I learn something new as the industry, laws and market conditions change so often. I love the moment that you see both purchaser and vendor smile because they have the best result that they could have asked for. I also love being surrounded by energetic, personable people who are excited to get out there every day and meet new people they can help.
Is real estate a good profession for women?
Real estate is a great career for women. It has been such a male dominated industry for so long and it provides women with a chance to showcase their talents and also build a rapport with clients that may have been lacking before.
What would you like to see done differently in the real estate industry?
I would like to see “cowboy” agents eliminated so the industry can really demonstrate that agents are there to help, support and work as their trusted adviser.
What’s your advice to a young person thinking of entering the real estate profession?
Don’t think just do it. You can achieve amazing things by on the job learning, skills that you wouldn’t learn anywhere else and the confidence to reach your goals.
What do you think of talk that Sydney is headed for an inevitable property “bubble”? What’s your outlook for your area?
I think it is just like anything in life, people tend to believe everything they read or hear in the media and that of course changes their mindset. In reality real estate is an industry of supply and demand, and in the Eastern Suburbs that supply and demand will always be there and as Sydney moves up in the list of the best places to live in the world then property will always be a part of this economy.
Where do you live now?
I live in Maroubra, a southern point of the Eastern Suburbs with some of the best surf in Sydney. I love its relaxed coastal vibe, and watching the lightning storms over the water from the balcony. You can’t beat it.
What’s your dream home, anywhere in the world?
Honestly I have to tell you that Maroubra is my dream location. I love to travel but I can’t imagine anywhere else being home. My dream home, well a modern apartment with a couple of bedrooms, large balcony and ocean views- I would be a happy lady!
