Unprecedented powers have been introduced to the NSW Building Commissioner raising the standard of residential buildings.
In an effort to not repeat the Opal Tower saga, where a cracked panel prompted a Christmas Eve evacuation of the building, the NSW Government has come out with new reforms around construction.
A six pillar reform program that will now put customers at the centre of multi-storey apartment building (Class2) projects, has been introduced by the Government, in the hope of restoring public confidence in the construction industry.
The NSW Building Commissioner, David Chandler OAM has unprecedented powers to regulate and raise the standard of residential buildings in NSW.
These powers are part of the Office of the NSW Building Commissioner’s Construct NSW strategy to protect apartment owners and residents from poor construction.

The Construct NSW strategy is where the six-pillar reform program lies and it puts the customer at the centre and transforms the construction industry into a more capable, accountable and quality-focused industry.
