Based on the frontline of the Real Estate / Property employment landscape, WILLIAMS MEDIA spoke with Director, Sharon Bennie of sharonbennie – Specialist Property Recruitment this week about what she’s been seeing the last few months from a job hunter and vacancies perspective.
Have you had a lot of people looking for work?
Interestingly not as many as we thought we would have. There was certainly quite a high volume coming through at the beginning of the pandemic (April / May), but many of those were from applicants outside of real estate, coming from travel, hospitality and the like, without Certificate of Registrations or possessing any solid Real Estate experience.
There certainly weren’t the volumes that we had seen during GFC.
What roles have the deepest talent pools?
The candidates that we have seen the highest percentage of applications from were based on the administration side of Real Estate. These were mainly roles that were quickly made redundant at the beginning of Covid when workforces were moving to working remotely: such as Receptionists, Marketing Coordinators and Sales Assistants.
Conversely what are the roles that have remained in high demand?
Because more people were living and working from home, and there have been such high volumes of rental renegotiations, vacancies, Airbnb properties coming on as new rentals and the suchlike, roles within Property Management and Strata Management have remained in high demand with the smallest talent pool for employers to choose from.
From our discussions, this is an effect of so few being stood-down or made redundant, combined with a higher percentage leaving the industry
What’s the employment market doing?
We’re essentially back to normal.
There was undoubtedly an exponential downswing in new job briefs during the months of April and May when businesses were trying to navigate the new landscape and attempt future workload forecasting.
June was a bumper month and July is shaping up really strongly with jobs being called in daily.

Realistically we have roles across the board. Mostly we are currently recruiting for:
