Orange ranks with Sydney Harbour as the nation's most prestigious locations on the new Australian Monopoly board.
Orange and Sydney Harbour have been voted as the most prestigious locations on Australia's own Monopoly board.
Last November, Hasbro gave Australians the opportunity to vote for 40 pieces of local real estate to determine how each location would be ranked on the new Australian Monopoly board.
The 35,000 votes turned up some surprising results, with the central-west NSW town of Orange the standout.
Ritika Gray, associate brand manager with Hasbro Australia, told The Sydney Morning Herald the strong polling for Orange came as somewhat of a surprise.
"The people of Orange backed their town quite heavily," she said.
"They are clearly very passionate about what they have to offer and they voted very consistently. Their passion is pretty clear from the results."
Queensland's Gold Coast, the Whitsundays, South Australia's Barossa Valley, Victoria's Great Ocean Raod, and Western Australia's Broome also took out top spots.
The Northern Territory received the fewest votes, which may be the result of its smaller voting population.
The vote was a collaboration between Hasbro and the tourism office for each Australian state, which provided a shortlist of destinations.
Adam Marshall, NSW Tourism Minister, said he was pleased to see Sydney Harbour and Orange take out the top spots on the new board.
"We're delighted our state has trumped the competition, which once again reinstates NSW as the number one place to live, work and enjoy," he said.
But it wasn't all smiles for Sydney. The Community Chest and Chance cards include penalties for being caught in peak hour traffic and increases in council rates.
