Liveability helps real estate agents promote the environmental features of properties they are marketing.
The CSIRO has acquired the Centre for Liveability Real Estate from LJ Hooker Corporation.
The award-winning platform was developed with sustainable design and construction industries to help real estate agents promote environmental features in their marketing.
While buyers or tenants can easily see if a residence has three bedrooms and a well-designed kitchen, it’s not so easy to determine a home’s environmental qualities. Liveability aims to put environmental features of a property at the forefront, promoting whether or not the residence is warm in winter, cheap to run, or if it has a large impact on the environment.
Research partner Cecille Weldon believes the platform will revolutionise the way property is marketed.
"It's about delivering a better experience for buyers, sellers, tenants and investors by empowering them to find or create their 'best home': healthy, efficient, comfortable and connected to their community," Weldon said.
Liveability adds to CSIRO's existing research in residential energy efficiency and aligns with its wider climate change mitigation work.
CSIRO research director Dr Stephen White said the framework and related checklist will help home owners “identify the best ways to be eco-friendly and be comfortable in our homes."
White said, "The framework is aspirational and positive, targeting the desirable features of a house that a buyer or seller can transparently seek out, have a conversation about, and ultimately place value on. "
Chairman of LJ Hooker and CEO of Hooker Corporation, L Janusz Hooker said, “LJ Hooker has continued its pioneering tradition founding Liveability, and again creating global best practices for the benefit of Australian real-estate owners, renters and service providers.
“After three years of research and development that culminated in a pilot program for over 300 homes, Liveability is now ready to be rolled out across the property industry by the CSIRO,” he said.
Real Estate Institute of New South Wales CEO Tim McKibbin said, "We are excited to sign on as the first Real Estate Institute partner of Liveability and to be able to offer this industry-leading training to our members over the coming months. "
The CSIRO will relaunch the centre and the liveability.com.au portal and develop the specialist training program to support a roll-out to the national residential real estate industry.
