The NSW government has given the public more time to comment on a discussion paper aimed at improving the supply of townhouse and terrace-style developments.
The NSW Department of Planning and Environment has extended until March 1 the time for the general public to comment on its discussion paper about fast-tracking delivery of medium-density housing options, such as terraces and townhouses.
The discussion paper was released last year to examine the building standards and requirements for medium-density homes.
Medium-density housing is more energy efficient than detached dwellings. Terraces and townhouse-style developments are sometimes referred to as the 'missing middle' in Sydney, referring to the lack of medium-density options. The government's discussion paper is aimed at improving supply in this potentially popular market.
Terrace houses in inner-Sydney suburbs such as Paddington and Surry Hills are an excellent example of medium-density housing. Once considered slums, these areas have undergone the process of gentrification, and are now considered some of the most desirable real estate in Sydney.
A department spokesperson said, "We want to encourage as many people as possible to spend time looking over the discussion paper and providing their feedback."
The discussion paper and site for feedback is available here.
