The Southern Highlands has become the favourite alternative for Sydney renters and buyers alike, with more affordable homes and lifestyle drawing families to the region.
Sydney families looking for affordable homes and a healthy lifestyle are heading to the Southern Highlands in droves, according to Bridgette Barker, Head of Investment Management at Di Jones Real Estate.
The popular townships of Bowral, Mittagong, Bundanoon - and others - are seeing extraordinary levels of enquiry, says Barker.
“There is real value for money,” she said, "and there are a wide array of properties available, from rural retreats to cottages and townhouses."
Ben Olofsen, sales agent with Di Jones Bowral, said his office is seeing strong numbers moving from Sydney.
"We're seeing a significant number of buyers coming from Sydney," he told SCHWARTZWILLIAMS.
"They're looking for affordable options and a country lifestyle," he said.
Interest has been right across the market, said Olofsen, from first-home buyers around the $700,000 mark, to houses in the $3 million plus arena.
However, Olofsen did say the market was beginning to show signs of softening in line with the broader NSW market, and said accurate pricing was key to securing a sale.
"We're starting to see numbers reduce. But if properties are priced well they are moving very quickly," he said.
Barker said a number of families have chosen to make the move south by renting, with a view to buying further down the track.
“There is a strong rent to buy market, where families are electing to review the area and the lifestyle before committing to a purchase," she said.
Ballogie Lodge, at 18 Bamburgh Place in Bundanoon, is available for rent. Located on an elevated site and with generous living spaces, the home is a good example of all the Southern Highlands has to offer, says Di Jones Real Estate Investment Manager, Brendan Peters.
“At $695 per week, the property offers 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and parking for 6 cars. It is an entertainer's delight with quality chef’s kitchen, several outdoor living spaces including a covered entertaining deck plus large front veranda, capturing serene rural views,” said Peters.
