Nine pieces designed by Tzannes with the City of Sydney and ABUD were among 5,214 submissions from 57 countries.
The Red Dot Award is one of the largest design prizes in the world, and is run by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Germany. Previous winners include Apple, BMW, Bose, and Porsche.
The winning pieces were designed by Tzannes in collaboration with the City of Sydney and Australian Built Urban Designs. The nine street furniture designs will be installed around the city to coincide with street upgrades and major projects.
Pieces have already been installed at Barangaroo and Green Square, and will be featured along pedestrianised George Street and revitalised Darling Harbour.
The designs include seats with arm rests, light poles, bollards, bubblers, tree guards, tree grates, and bins. They being manufactured by ABUD at their Kurnell factory.
"I congratulate designer Alex Tzannes and his team for creating world-class pieces that locals and visitors will enjoy for years to come," said Lord Mayor Clover Moore.
Tzannes Design Director, Alex Tzannes, said, "Tzanne's objective was to create a family of elements reflecting Sydney's unique cultural and urban context inspired by, among other things, the city's waterfront industrial heritage, the Harbour Bridge, the Sydney Opera House, and our outdoor lifestyle and culture."
