Archicentre has launched a poll on its website.
Archicentre, the design and inspection service of the Australian Institute of Architects, has launched a poll about negative gearing on the front page of its website.
The poll asks, 'If negative gearing tax breaks were removed from renovating existing properties, would this stop you from investing in property?'
Respondents can answer yes, no, or maybe. The poll is in the far right-hand column of the web site.
At the time of writing, 53.5% of respondents has answered yes, 40.8% no, and 5.6% were uncommitted.
Early readings of the responses suggest that Labor's proposed changes could slow the renovations market and related industries, such as trades, and could cause falls in property prices.
Robert Caulfield, of Archicentre, said the poll was aimed at "providing anyone involved, or thinking of getting involved, in the renovation of existing homes with an opportunity to comment on the political debate."
