Gary White will set the course for the state's urban and regional planning.
Gary White of MacroPlan Dimasi has been appointed The NSW Department of Planning and Environment's Chief Planner.
Mr White has been appointed to provide rigour and oversight of strategic planning for the state, and for assessing major projects.
Mr White has 40 years' experience across both the public and private sectors. Most recently, Mr White was Chief Planner and Strategic Advisor for MacroPlan Dimasi. Prior to that, Mr White spent more than 30 years in various Local and State Government senior planning roles in Queensland.
He worked at the Deputy Director-General level in the Queensland Government, where he oversaw state-of-the-art planning reform, and the development and implementation of regional plans.
Mr White is a 'Life Fellow' with the Planning Institute of Australia.
The Chief Planner plays a central role in setting a course for the future of cities and regional communities.
A spokesperson said, "The NSW Government has moved the State's planning system into top gear. Mr White will provide expert oversight on an ambitious program of work."
