Robyn Feigen began her real estate career in soggy London, before packing her bags and moving to Melbourne, where she now works as a senior sales consultant at Kay & Burton South Yarra.
Hailing from London, Robyn Feigen brings her international training and an extensive list of overseas clients to her current role as a senior sales consultant at Kay & Burton South Yarra.
She spoke with WILLIAMS MEDIA about her time in London, what it takes to be a top agent, and why she believes the South Yarra market will remain strong.
How did you start out in real estate? Have you always worked in the industry, or did you do something else previously?
I have now spent some 13 years in the property industry – having spent 6 years now with Kay & Burton. I was always fascinated with amazing homes, interesting people and have devoted my entire working life to this industry.
You spent eight years in a top London agency - can you tell us more about your time there? What inspired the move to Australia?
My time in London started in the high-end corporate leasing side of the business and was an excellent learning curve.
The London market, as an international city, is very competitive – something I thrived on and I still draw on this experience with so many of my transactions here in Melbourne.
I made the move with my husband who is Australian and are very much enjoying the lifestyle Australia brings. I love it here!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy the connection with people and the rapport built over long periods of time. Many of these develop into very genuine and professional friendships.
I have recently listed a couple of properties for amazing families whom I met when I first arrived at Kay & Burton – nurturing the relationships for 5+ years.
I also love my team – the work environment we have created has amazing energy!
Can you tell us about an interesting property you’ve sold?
One of the properties which I have just sold at 11 Wynnstay Road, Prahran East which was an amazing, large, late 1800’s residence with an abundance of opportunity to renovate was one of the properties I have nurtured for the past 5 years.
It was such a delight to toast a champagne with the owners after getting to know them so well.
What’s your advice to young people starting out in real estate?
Have patience in everything that you do. How you interact with people, deal with challenges and set your goals.
What does it take to be a top real estate agent?
If my clients are calling me, I know that I am not exceeding their expectations. I am always striving to be one step ahead of the process ensuring a wonderful experience at the forefront of our industry.
If you could change one thing about the real estate industry, what would it be?
I wouldn’t change anything about the industry as I feel very lucky to be a part of it. I am excited to see what the future holds and though I believe that the relationship aspect of our profession will always be the key.
The integration of new technologies to enhance information and experience is something I am really looking forward to.
What’s your outlook for the property market in South Yarra for the next 12-18 months?
I am a particular fan of properties in and around the Botanic Gardens in South Yarra which is very tightly held.
Given the rarity of these homes being available, the market will continue to be strong should they become available.
Where do you live now, and what would be your dream home if you could live anywhere in the world?
We live in a quaint little cottage in Windsor which we are planning to renovate and extend. I love living in the Stonnington area and dream to live in a large and beautifully renovated Victorian home in a street in the Domain precinct.
