The proceeds from the sale of a three-bedroom Randwick flat will go to St Vincent's hospital after engineer, Donald Stone, left his apartment to the hospital in his will.
The proceeds from the sale of a Randwick apartment have been left to St Vincent’s Hospital, with Di Jones agents Samuel and Jane Schumann also donating their fee to the good cause.
The three-bedroom apartment at 8/18-22 Courland Street, Randwick, one of only 12 in the block, sold under the hammer last week for $1.405 million, $205,000 higher than the reserve.
The long-time resident and owner of the apartment, engineer Donald Stone, left the apartment to St Vincent's hospital in his will.
With a sunny north-westerly aspect and leafy district views, ample living and dining areas opening onto a balcony, and a modern kitchen, the apartment attracted keen interest from buyers said Jane Schumann.
“We had a great response to the property with six contracts issued and four registered bidders on the night," she said.
Locals from the neighbouring suburb, Coogee, were the eventual buyers.
A spokesperson for St Vincent’s hospital said Stone had a vision for the future and was determined to help those around him.
“Working for many years as an engineer for the NCR, Donald’s passion for building and understanding the intricacies of how things works appeared in all aspects of his life.
“Don never married or had any family and made the very worthy decision that his estate would be used to help improve the lives of others after he passed. A man in his early 80s, he left his entire estate, including the three bedroom apartment in Randwick, as well as cash, to St Vincent’s Hospital."
The hospital said that funds from sale will be used to purchase state-of-the-art technology and equipment to treat patients for generations to come.
