WILLIAMS MEDIA sat down with Colliers International Retail Asset Transactions Senior Executive Mark Stowe to reflect on his time within the industry so far.
Colliers International's Mark Stowe was among the fresh faces to attend the REIA Awards for Excellence in Perth last month.
The 25-year-old was nominated for the national Achievement Award, having won the REINSW version of the prize last year.
WILLIAMS MEDIA sat down with the Retail Asset Transactions Senior Executive to reflect on a career that has gone from strength to strength in the past couple of years.
How did it feel to win the REINSW Achievement Award last year?
It was really exciting. It was such a great night. It's awarded to people who have been in the industry for under two years, so it's kind of like the 'junior burger' of the year award.
How long have you been at Colliers?
A year and a half. I'm pretty fresh in. It's been a bit different, but I've really enjoyed it so far.
What were you doing before your current role?
I was a retail analyst for Colliers for about a year before I moved to the agency role. Prior to that I was working at KPMG, but I couldn't do the hours because of competitive kayaking.
A personal friend asked me if I wanted a research analyst job at Colliers and I thought it sounded good. After doing that for a year, I was injured while rowing and made the decision to focus more on Colliers and give agency work a crack.
How are you finding your agency role compared with what you were doing before?
It's been pretty fun. You get to talk a bit more, which I don't mind.
My role is a bit different to that of a lot of my peers in the sense that I am not doing as much agency work right now. I don't lease shops, or sell buildings.
I've found my own little niche, which has been quite nice.
Initially, I was part of the retail leasing team, before going on to work with the renewable investment fund Solar Bay, which funds solar power on landlord's roofs and passes the value back through as rental income.
It's not typical agency work but you still get the same kind of clients.
