The Australian Institute of Landscape Architecture (AILA) has launched a new category of membership, catering for those currently left out.
AILA CEO, Tim Arnold, told WILLIAMS MEDIA the new category of membership, named 'Member', will service Landscape Architects who no longer qualify for one of the graduate categories, and might not immediately be progressing to the Registered Landscape Architect category.
"Previously, if someone wasn't a graduate then we haven't had a home for them as a member. We have plans to tailor the new category for public landscape architects as it's a growing area in the profession," he said.
The category is also ideal for local government, academics and international landscape architects who may not have a need to move to become a Registered Landscape Architect because of their line of work or circumstances.
The announcement comes following the completion of the National Membership Committee’s review on categories, which included member consultation in January and February 2018. The second element of the review will focus on the registration process which is expected to continue into 2019.
Registered Landscape Architect remains the primary offering of AILA membership and the advocacy efforts of the Institute will continue to support the profile and rigour of this category.
