Sydney’s largest urban regeneration project, Barangaroo South, has been awarded the Property Council of Australia’s RLB NSW Development of the Year award.
Sydney’s largest urban regeneration project, Barangaroo South, has picked up the state’s top property honour.
The project's developer, Lendlease, was presented with the Property Council of Australia’s RLB NSW Development of the Year award late last week.
Barangaroo South will eventually accommodate 23,000 office workers, 2,000 residents, a six-star hotel, and more than 80 cafés, bars, restaurants, and retail outlets, and will span 535,000sqm.
The development first began construction in October 2011, and is being completed over a number of stages, finishing in 2023. Only the first stage is now complete.
“Barangaroo South has transformed Sydney with a unique blend of architectural styles and mixed uses which bring people to the precinct day and night,” said the Property Council’s NSW executive director, Jane Fitzgerald.
“It has been a spectacular commercial success, with the Anadara and Alexander’s 159 waterfront apartments selling out in three-and-a-half hours in August 2013, and International Towers Sydney currently sitting at 84 per cent occupancy,” she said.
Barangaroo South includes International House Sydney, Australia’s first engineered timber commercial building, as well as Sydney’s highest concentration of food and beverage outlets in a single precinct.
Barangaroo South is also competing in two categories at the national awards, which will be held in Sydney on Friday 11 May.
