When Barack Obama leaves office next year, his family will not move far from the White House.
The family intends to stay local, allowing his youngest daughter, Sasha, to complete middle school. The family will move to a nine-bedroom, Tudor-style, brick house in Washington, that is said to be worth around US$7 million (nearly A$10 million).
The house is 8,200 square feet, has generous living spaces and a large dining room. Downstairs is a family media room, and an au-paire suite, which could be used by Marian Robinson, Michelle Obama's mother, who lives with the family.
The home is in an upmarket neighbourhood, and will need to be modified to accommodate a significant security contingent.
The home is owned by Joe Lockhart, who was Bill Clinton’s press secretary during his time as President.
