Brisbane City Council plans to build ten new moorings on the Brisbane River, opening up access to the central waterway and improving connectivity in the city.
Brisbane City Council has revealed designs for two of the ten mooring facilities planned for the Brisbane River.
The new pontoons will cost around $18 million.
The two designs revealed so far are for the City Botanic Gardens and New Farm Park stops, the first sites to recieve new 'docking hubs' for short-term moorings in inner-city Brisbane.
The New Farm facility will be located next to the Powerhouse. The City Botanic Gardens mooring will be at the greenway’s north-eastern corner, where Edward Street turns into Alice Street.
The new moorings have been planned with the intention to open up the river to more access for businesses, residents and tourists, and to make Moreton Bay and Moreton Island more easily accessible.
The designs released by the council show each mooring will have space for 15 vessels, ranging all the way from kayaks up to tour boats.
