New Melbourne apartment tower, 661 Chapel Street, will blend art with architecture, featuring works by international artists Damien Hirst and Omer Arbel.
New Melbourne apartment tower, 661 Chapel Street, will feature works by international artists Damien Hirst and Omer Arbel in a grand entrance foyer.
The four-storey entrance will contain a specially curated art collection, as well as a library. Hirst's work for French brand Lalique will be displayed alongside a lighting installation by Arbel, as well as works by other artists. Hirst is best known for suspending a shark in formaldehyde in a glass case, in a work he titled 'The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living'.
The tower will be 30 levels and contain 127 apartments, including three larger format, four-bedroom apartments and a 271sqm penthouse. The project is being designed by Melbourne architects Bird de la Coeur for Malaysian developer Gamuda Land, and will allow purchasers to customise layouts, including the ability to combine apartments into whole-floor 'sky homes'.
Another innovative design feature of the project is a pool that cantilevers over the lobby entrance.
