An ambitious new development in Cremorne will restore and promote the heritage of its site.
The Nylex clock will be restored to full working order and will continue its watch over Melbourne.
Developer Caydon has lodged an application to develop 1.4 hectares at Cremorne, where malt was once stored for beer production. The residential, commercial and tourism development is expected to cost more than $1 billion and create more than 500 jobs during construction.
The area will be known as the Malt District, for its association with beer brewing and malt storage, and to connect the development with the history of the site.
The proposal reflects recent moves by developers to pay homage to the history of their site, while at the same time transforming the area for modern living.
